Legislation
The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 cover a wide range of basic health, safety and welfare issues and apply to most workplaces. In particular Regulation 20 covers “sanitary conveniences” and Regulation 21 covers “washing facilities”.
Soap Dispensers
“Washing facilities shall not be suitable unless they include soap or other suitable means of cleaning”
Sanitary Disposal
“in toilets used by women, suitable means for the disposal of sanitary dressings should also be provided”.
Hand Drying
“Washing facilities shall not be suitable unless they include towels or other suitable means of drying”
Toilet Roll Holders
“toilet paper should be provided in a holder or dispenser”
Air Freshening
“Any room containing a toilet should be well ventilated, so that offensive odours do not linger. Measures should also be taken to prevent odours entering other rooms”
